Internships/volunteering/service learning

Sometimes the best way to learn about a culture and interact with it is to become directly involved with it outside of the classroom. Our partnership with Máximo Nivel provides students with unique opportunities to do internships in beautiful Guatemala. Whether you like to work with children or animals or want to help conservation efforts, there are some wonderful partnerships for you to help the community and improve your Spanish! The best part? YOU choose the dates and length of your program. Once you make your choice, an advisor will guide you through the internship selection process and assist you as you prepare for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Contact us to learn more! Abroadia hosted an online conversation with Máximo Nivel to discuss their programs with several colleges and universities. Have a look at the video to learn more. You will see that there are many options available no matter what your interest is. And…YOU pick the dates and length of the program!

Long Way Home

Based in San Juan Comalapa, Guatemala, this community, known as the “Florence of the Americas,” provides students with unique opportunities to engage with the people there while collaborating with them on constructive projects for community members through sustainable and democratic education.

Past students have constructed ovens for local homes and helped build schools. Some students, preferably those with an education or pedagogy background, have taught at the local school.

Interested students have the flexibility to choose the dates for their time in Guatemala. Contact us to learn more!
